Helping Local Communities Serve Youth with Disabilities

The Kansas Youth Transition Network (KYTN) is a grant-funded project created to improve support and services for transition-age youth with disabilities.

KYTN aims to help communities in Kansas get youth with disabilities ready for life after high school. KYTN establishes local networks called KYTN Councils. KYTN Councils grow and enhance transition services for youth with disabilities by bringing everyone's knowledge and experience together. The KYTN team uses programs and ideas that are already working well and brings them together. The KYTN Councils consist of:

  • Youth with disabilities
  • Family members
  • Youth services organizations (including schools and community organizations)
  • Employers

Partners within KYTN Councils work together to improve how transition services are delivered to youth with disabilities in their community, with a focus on:

  • Career exploration
  • Access to competitive, integrated employments (hyperlinked to "What is Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE)")
  • Further education opportunities after high school
  • Independence and community living

How it Works

  • We help communities map out local resources and identify gaps
  • We support communities in building strong, lasting local KYTN Councils
  • We prioritize youth and family leadership in everything we do
  • We evaluate what works, and help it grow
  • We share resources, best practices, and training through our website for transition-age youth, their families, employers, and service providers

Our Partners
